A New Intergeneric Hybrid Flatfish (Pleuronectiformes: Pleuronectidae) from Puget Sound and Adjacent Waters
A new hybrid flatfish (Isopsetta isolepis X Parophrys vetulus) is described from two specimens collected in the Strait of Georgia and Puget Sound, Washington. Four putative parental species were selected based on morphological similarities to the hybrid. Principal component analysis was conducted on the correlation matrix for nine meristic characters. Parentage was assigned on the basis of meristic intermediacy between the hybrid and the putative parental species.Abstract

Isopsetta isolepis X Parophrys vetulus: (A) UW 48379, adult male, 242 mm SL, from Strait of Georgia, near Blaine, Washington; (B) UW 110374, juvenile male, 161 mm SL, Holmes Harbor, Puget Sound, Washington

Isopsetta isolepis X Parophrys vetulus, UW 48379: (A) blind side of head, showing pattern of lateral line; (B) scales supporting unique pore configuration on accessory dorsal branch (ADB) of lateral line

Principal component scores of meristics for Isopsetta isolepis X Parophrys vetulus: (A) four putative parental species; (B) parental species
