New Species of Pachycara Zugmayer (Pisces: Zoarcidae) from the Rainbow Hydrothermal Vent Field (Mid-Atlantic Ridge)

A new species of Pachycara is described from the Rainbow hydrothermal vent field (Mid-Atlantic Ridge, 36°13′N; 33°54′W). Pachycara saldanhai n. sp. is closely related to Pachycara thermophilum Geistdoerfer, 1994, from which it differs in having a lateral line with two branches, and a higher interorbital width to head length ratio, as well as higher vertebral, dorsal- and anal-fin rays counts.

Resumen

No presente trabalho é descrita uma nova espécie do género Pachycara, colhida no campo hidrotermal “Rainbow” (Crista Médio-Atlântica, 36°13′N; 33°54′W). Pachycara saldanhai n. sp. tem grande afinidade com Pachycara thermophilum Geistdoerfer, 1994, da qual difere por ter uma linha lateral com dois ramos e um valor mais elevado da razão distância interorbital/comprimento da cabeça. Possui ainda um maior número de vértebras, bem como de raios das barbatanas dorsal e anal.
