Hyphessobrycon heliacus: A New Characid Fish (Ostariophysi: Characiformes) from the Upper Rio Tapajós Basin, Central Brazil
Hyphessobrycon heliacus n. sp. is described from the upper rio Tapajós basin, Mato Grosso, Brazil. The new species is distinguished from other currently recognized Hyphessobrycon species by the combination of an enlarged caudal spot, the golden body coloration in life, the elongate filamentous dorsal and pelvic fins, thickened anal fin rays, and the absence of anal fin lobe. These last three characteristics are present only in mature males.
Hyphessobrycon heliacus sp. n. é descrito para a bacia do alto rio Tapajós, Estado de Mato Grosso, Brasil. A nova espécie distingue-se de outras espécies atualmente incluídas em Hyphessobrycon pela combinação de uma mancha caudal expandida, corpo de cor dourada (em vida), nadadeiras dorsal e pélvicas alongadas e filamentosas, raios da nadadeira anal engrossados e ausência de lóbulo na nadadeira anal. As últimas três condições estão presentes somente em machos maduros.Abstract
