Abstract

Curimata vari Gaye-Siessegger and Fricker, 1998, described from the rio Cubatão drainage, southeastern Brazil, is compared to other curimatid species. It lacks the synapomorphies that diagnose Curimata Bosc and must be considered a Cyphocharax species, according to the current definition of the genus. A comparative analysis of the morphometric data for C. vari, Cyphocharax santacatarinae, and C. voga indicates that C. vari Gaye-Siessegger and Fricker is a subjective junior synonym of C. santacatarinae Fernández-Yépez.
